Does Magic Kingdom Serve Alcohol?
In most Disney World theme parks, it’s fairly easy to find beer, wine, and cocktails for sale. Whether you want a drink Oga’s Cantina in Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios or a quick drink from the Dawa Bar in Animal Kingdom, you’ll be able to find alcoholic refreshment.
But the Magic Kingdom has always made it a bit more difficult.
In fact, from 1971 (when the park opened) until 2012, the ‘Most Magical Place on Earth’ was actually a “dry” park.
That’s right, there was not a drop of alcohol to be found on Main Street USA or anywhere in the park.
Walt Disney’s View on Alcohol in the Disney Parks
If you’re wondering why Magic Kingdom was the one Disney World park that didn’t serve alcoholic beverages, it’s because that’s the way Walt Disney wanted it.
He dreamed of Disney World being the “happiest place on earth,” where adults and children alike could enjoy themselves, knowing they would always be safe—and he didn’t include alcohol in his original vision for the park.
Walt felt that alcohol could bring in a rowdy element in the family-friendly park, and that wasn’t the goal of the Disney brand.
Alcohol Outside the Magic Kingdom
While Magic Kingdom may not have served alcohol for more than 40 years of its existence, many drinking-age guests imbibed all the same.
Bars were located just outside the park boundaries at the Disney monorail resorts, such as the Contemporary, Polynesian, and Grand Floridian resorts—so guests would leave the park via Disney World transportation for a meal or happy hour to enjoy their cocktails.
No doubt leaving the park meant guests spent less time and money inside. With the loss of money and the guest demand for an alcoholic beverage with their expensive full service meals, Disney made the decision to finally include alcohol at Magic Kingdom in 2012.

Alcohol in Magic Kingdom
For some visitors, finding out that there is alcohol at Magic Kingdom was a major change that came as a disappointment. But for others who enjoy a drink or two during their vacation, the news is met with excitement.
Disney typically does not market alcohol too much in the parks, but that doesn’t mean it’s hard to find.
In most cases, 21-and-over visitors can pick up a mixed cocktail or mug of beer from most table service restaurants, including dinner buffets, in the Orlando theme park.
Yes, that means you do need dining reservations. With a little planning, it’s easy to enjoy some of the adult beverages offered on property.
