When at Disney World, there’s seemingly a million things to do. And if you’re anything like me, chances are there’s a million things to carry around as well!
Okay, maybe not a million. But as a mom of three, I can assure you there’s a lot.
After all, you will be covering a lot of ground throughout the Disney property!
When I was younger, I can remember my mom carrying our family’s stuff in a cute shoulder bag we affectionately called the “Mickey bag.”
I don’t know how she carried it through all the parks day after day, because it was always heavy and probably not very comfortable.
That was a long time ago, and these days there are many backpack options available to save your shoulders. There are so many great options to meet everyone’s needs and preferences.
Best Backpacks for Disney World
When considering what type of backpack to get, you will probably want to keep a few things in mind. First of all, consider what’s on your packing list for Disney World and how much you’ll need to carry through the park.
You’ll definitely want to consider bags that are durable, lightweight, and breathable.
Or maybe you prefer something more stylish that you’ll feel comfortable wearing whether at the park or out running errands.
Whether you want something with a lot of pockets and compartments (because visiting Disney with a toddler requires that) or simple, small and convenient I’ve got you covered. Here are my top picks for the best backpacks for Disney World.
KAVU Rope Puff Crossbody Backpack
- Unique design: The KAVU Mini Rope Puff boasts a unique design that sets it apart from other rope bags. The diamond quilted polyester fabric, combined with the braided elastic rope shoulder strap, creates a one-of-a-kind unicorn farm style that is sure to turn heads.
I personally have a KAVU bag and I love it! While it may not fit everything an entire family would need for a day in Disney, it is great for those of you heading out by yourself.
Also, this is a great option for everyone in the family to wear, including kids!
My nieces love these bags and can carry them with ease. Plus, there’s a style and print for everyone.
This bag features different compartments to help you keep items in their own spot, allowing you to grab your sanitizer or cell phone with ease.
Ambry Rope Sling Crossbody Backpack
- PERFECT SIZE: 11” x 18” rope sling bag is compact enough to use as a purse but big enough to carry your most important things in it’s five pockets, including a small laptop (12” x 8.5” or smaller) such as a 13” MacBook Air.
If you love the look of a Kavu bag but want something a little less pricey, I recommend the Ambry crossbody bag.
I actually used this bag on my last trip to Disney World and it worked great! It comes in several prints and colors, and it holds more than you think!
Matein Travel Backpack

This affordable backpack has amazing five-star ratings and it has several features!
For starters it’s slim, water resistant (perfect for keeping your belongings dry when it rains at Disney World), and has lots of pockets and compartments.
It’s a big larger than some of our other options, so it will easily store a bit more.
It also features a multi-panel airflow back for breathability (super important when you’re trying to stay cool at Disney) as well as luggage straps and a USB charging port.
As with our other options, this one does come in several colors as well.
sunhiker Small Travel Backpack
- IMPORTANT PRODUCT IMFORMATIONS: The sunhiker backpack is a small-sized backpack with dimensions of 15.8H x 9.4L x 5.9W inches/40 x 24 x 15 cm, a weight of 12.3 oz, and a capacity of approximately 20-25L. It is suitable for both men and women who prefer a smaller sized backpack and only want to carry essential items while traveling light. This size is also suitable for children above aged 3. Please make sure that it is the size what you need/want before purchasing.
This Sunhiker backpack is not only lightweight and durable, but it is also made of waterproof nylon.
It will keep your items dry during Florida thunderstorms and has breathable mesh shoulder straps and backing.
It also comes in a variety of colors and prints, much like the KAVU, but offers the standard straps of a backpack if you prefer that to the crossbody options.
I bought these bags for my kids to wear when we travel, because they’re a great size for airports, theme parks, etc.
These bags an ideal size for kids or adults, making them quite versatile.
The North Face Vault Backpack
- Keep your belongings safe and protected in The North Face® Vault adventure daypack!
If you’re looking for a bag with a great name and reputation, this choice is for you.
This option is more heavy duty and durable. While it may not be as compact, it is endorsed by the American Chiropractic Association and offers flex vent technology for ventilated support.
It has a water repellent finish and comes in an assortment of colors as well. It also has two side pockets for water bottles, so you can stay hydrated in the parks.
Loungefly Disney Backpack
And let’s not forget the coveted Loungefly backpacks. These beauties are a cult favorite and are an Instagram-worthy way to show off your Disney style.
You can get one in just about any print or character you can think of! Seriously, just look at all of the stunning choices!
These bags are all the rage at Disney World–you see guests wearing them everywhere!
While these are a little pricey considering their size, they are sure to be a stylish favorite you can wear beyond your stay on Disney property. This Marie one is simply adorable.

Kids Backpacks for Disney World
If you want your kids to be able to carry a few things, or if they have essentials of their own to keep track of, these backpacks are great choices.
Simple Modern Mickey Mouse Backpack For Kids
- Officially Licensed Disney: 7L Mickey Mouse Ears kids backpack great for ages 1 to 3
If your child is a Disney lover, these backpacks come in the cutest Disney prints!
While the Mickey print is always a classic, I absolutely love the Monsters Inc and Lion King ones, too!
These bags feature adjustable, padded straps as well as a chest strap to help your kiddo keep it on throughout the day.
These backpacks are also ideal for kids to use as luggage for their trip, so they can serve more than one purpose!
Skip Hop Toddler Backpack
Skip Hop offers a great backpack for the smaller children in your family.
It’s small enough to fit your tykes perfectly and is so cute! I absolutely love the dragon and flamingo options.
These bags have comfy, padded straps as well as a side mesh opening for sippy cups or juice boxes. Your little ones will definitely “feel big” wearing these.
What Kind of Bag Should I Bring to Disney World?
Hopefully by now you realize there are so many wonderful options to make carrying around your necessities a breeze.
You can enjoy a small and comfortable backpack that will compartmentalize your goods while offering breathability and protection from the rain.
While there are certainly other options, such as our favorite fanny packs or shoulder bags, I believe the backpack wins all–especially if you’re traveling with kids.
Gone are the days of lugging around a large shoulder bag and then spending forever digging to the depths of said bag for your cell phone (ask me how I know).
A backpack offers a solution for both the coveted compact size of a fanny pack and the capability to carry as much as a shoulder bag.
And let’s not forget how many prints and stylish options a backpack has to offer versus other options. I mean, come on, a Marie Loungefly is pure Disney magic sitting on your shoulders.
What could beat that? 🙂
Can You Take Your Backpack on Rides at Disney World?
After picking out the perfect backpack for you and your family to carry throughout the park, you may be wondering what you’ll do with the backpack on rides.
Luckily, Disney has already thought of the solution!
You can bring your back with you on all Disney rides.
In many cases, you can simply hold your bag on your lap or place it on the seat next to you. This is true for “gentler” rides, such as It’s a Small World, as well as shows.
Many other rides will have storage areas, such as a pocket or mesh basket of sorts, typically under your seat or in front of you. This provides an enclosed area where you can safely stow your belongings.
If your bag is too large to fit in the storage compartment, you can typically put it at your feet.
There are a few exceptions to this, particularly at Animal Kingdom.
At the Kali River Rapids, free lockers are provided so you can stow your belongings in a dry space. At Avatar Flight of Passage, you’ll find storage bins behind you.
For larger bags, such as souvenirs, you can have the bags sent from the gift shop to the front of the park, where you can pick them up when exiting.
If you’re staying at a Disney Resort, the gift shop can send your bags there instead!
