DISNEYLAND TREATS WORTH THE SPLURGE

Taking the time to plan your meals and try some of the most iconic dishes will make your Disneyland California experience so much more memorable. And if you’re looking to save time, remember to order ahead with the Disneyland app to avoid waiting in long lines!

Without further ado, here is the best Disneyland food that is worth the splurge!

1. Mickey Beignet

The famous Mickey beignet is something you have to try when visiting Disneyland park. It’s one of the best things around!

Nestled in the menu of the Scat Cat’s Club Cafe at the Disneyland Port Orleans – French Quarter, these piping hot and golden cake-like treats are served with a delicious coat of powdered sugar.

It’s worth giving a warning to dress appropriately for these delicious beignets! The powdered sugar spills easily onto anything dark you might be wearing.

There’s also the option of ordering specialty beignets.

The beignets can be ordered with a dipping sauce in flavors like salted caramel, chicory chocolate, strawberry, or ganache, and there’s even a Mickey beignet sundae piled high with an ice cream and sauce of your choice!

The dough is baked to a nice golden brown and has a pillowy and soft cake-like texture. The sweet powdered sugar is an incredible complement to this warm and delicious treat. It’s served hot when it’s ordered in a sundae too, and it makes for a delicious contrast.

Best of all, the Mickey beignets are prepared on the spot for every order. When you order this delicious treat, it’s served to you hot, fresh, and ready to eat.

This fun spin on a traditional, regional treat is definitely worth the try when you visit Disneyland. The experience of the cooks and the quality of the recipe leads to one yummy treat.

You can also find Mickey Beignets at the Mint Julep Bar in New Orleans Square, where you can also partake in some delicious non-alcoholic mint juleps and espresso drinks!

2. QuesaBirria

Nothing is more delicious than a good quesadilla or Birria. And, as a result of the genius of Disney cooks, you can order a quesadilla and Birria together in the QuesaBirria!

Offered at the Cocina Cucamonga Mexican Grill in the Pacific Wharf area of the Disneyland park, the QuesaBirria is an underappreciated classic. Any fans of savory, cheesy deliciousness have to give this delicious take on two traditional recipes a try.

Drawing from the traditional preparation of a quesadilla (cheese melted inside a tortilla) and Birria (spiced shredded beef stew), this recipe brings a fun new spin on the recipes and highlights their complementary flavors.

In this dish, shredded beef is cooked in a Birria stew broth before being added inside a quesadilla with cheese and fried. The delicious spices infused into the beef complement the rich cheese in an incredible way, and the stewing of the beef results in a tender and oozing-with-flavor texture.

Suffice to say, if you’re ordering this incredible treat, napkins are a requirement.

The QuesaBirria is also served with yummy sides that turn this treat into a meal. It is served with a consomé that resembles Birria stew and offers a delicious dipping sauce, but you can also eat and enjoy it by itself.

3. Seasonal Funnel Cake

Funnel cake is delicious. The piping hot, sweet dough fried with a golden crust and perfect cakey consistency defines perfection, and it couldn’t possibly get better once you’ve added the powdered sugar.

Or, that’s what I thought until I tried Disneyland’s famous seasonal funnel cakes. There are too many delicious varieties to list!

The Chocolate and Coffee Funnel Cake is incredible. Served with a heaping portion of chocolate mocha ice cream and laden with sweet whipped cream and chocolate fudge, there’s no denying that this funnel cake creation is a masterpiece.

Anyone looking for a delightfully chocolatey and rich dessert will love this funnel cake.

Meanwhile, the Red Velvet Funnel Cake is an adorable pink treat perfect for sharing with a special someone. Strawberry ice cream and cream cheese frosting are laid on a rich red velvet funnel cake in the shape of an adorable Mickey.

With the powdered sugar and whipped cream added, this dessert is almost too cute to eat!

The Honey-To-Love Funnel cake is also a great choice for the Valentine’s Day season. This funnel cake is slathered with honey and has an adorable whipped cream Mickey with cinnamon sprinkles.

The honey and cream combine to offer a very decadent flavor, while the cinnamon sprinkles add an interesting flavor without being too strong or spicy.

Another favorite was the Strawberry Lemonade funnel cake. Made with a traditional funnel cake base, it’s drizzled with lemonade-flavored frosting and strawberries to offer a sweet and tart kick.

This funnel cake also has the iconic whipped cream Mickey, which is sure to bring a smile to your face.

4. Monte Cristo Sandwich

One of the most essential offerings at Disneyland park is their savory and complex Monte Cristo sandwich, offered at the Cafe Orleans in New Orleans Square. Among the New Orleans-influenced menu items is this famous and decadent sandwich.

This restaurant is quite popular, especially during peak times at the park, and to ensure that you get to try this incredible meal on your trip it’s important to make a reservation.

It’s definitely worth the time you’ll save using the Disneyland app for an Advanced Dining Reservation.

The Monte Cristo sandwich features a savory sliced turkey, Swiss, and ham on a substantial and crispy bread. The sandwich is lightly battered and fried, and dusted with powdered sugar that adds complexity to its rich and meaty flavor.

This sandwich is served with a Cajun-spiced Remoulade and Berry Puree, with a side of Parmesan-Garlic Pommes Frites.

As is typical of Disneyland offerings, the sandwich and Pommes Frites are both cooked to golden and crispy perfection. The hints of herbal flavor from the garlic and parsley add a delicious layer to the flavor.

The sauces are perfect, with the spicy cajun remoulade pairing perfectly with the Pommes Frites and the berry puree practically being invented for the Monte Cristo sandwich.

You may not expect to like a sweet and savory sandwich like the Monte Cristo, but the combination is unforgettably new and delicious. This sandwich is an absolute classic to try on your next visit to Disneyland.

5. Pretzel Bites

If you’re ever visiting the Paradise Gardens in Disneyland park, there’s no better way to keep your appetite at bay than with the salty and crispy pretzel bites offered by the Paradise Garden Cart.

These pretzel bites have a perfectly browned crust and cakey pretzel consistency that makes them a delight to eat.

This treat is served in a portion of five pretzel bites with a side of savory cheese sauce and is a great choice if you’re looking for something that won’t be too filling.

These savory snacks are especially good when paired with the beer from the beer garden.

6. Dole Whip

Arguably the best thing to eat at Disneyland, there’s probably no more iconic Disney treat than the Dole Whip.

Served in a heaping swirl of creamy pineapple goodness, this ice cream treat has become a fan favorite at Disneyland and Walt Disney World alike.

After being created by the Dole Food Company in 1986, this dessert has had lots of time to gain a cult following — and is now offered in 9 flavors! (Tip: you can make this famous treat at home with our easy Dole Whip recipe!)

The Dole Whip is prepared using a pineapple-flavored ice cream mix, and is dairy-free when served without additions!

Luckily for everyone, the ingredients of this iconic treat are inclusive of many dietary restrictions and lifestyles. Since 2013, Dole Whip has been exclusively vegan and gluten-free. There’s even a Rum version for adults!

It’s served at a nice and cool temperature which gives you enough time to savor and enjoy it before it starts melting, and it has a sweet and tart flavor carried over the velvety consistency of soft Italian ice.

You can even order the Dole Whip paired with another flavor like swirled with vanilla ice cream that will add another layer of creamy richness. It’s hard to believe it can get that delicious!

There are other flavor variations offered around the park, like lemon and mango. You can look for these variations at locations like the Tropical Hideaway or Tangaroa Terrace Tropical Bar & Grill. There’s certainly a delicious flavor of Dole Whip for everyone!

This restaurant is one of Disneyland’s most popular locations, and visitors from all around can’t stop raving about their fried chicken.

This fried chicken is a delight to eat and is served at a beautiful location.

The Plaza Inn dining room is decorated in a gorgeous Victorian style with lots of brass and ornate arches punctuating the interior. Beautiful chandeliers hang around the building, and there’s even a bronzed soda dispenser.

You can also dine on the outdoor patio, and it’s a great place to sit and people-watch.

Whether it’s the juicy and tender meat or the perfectly spiced and crisp crust, this fried chicken is always cooked to perfection.

It’s served with buttery and savory sides including mashed potatoes and gravy, seasoned green beans, and a crispy biscuit.

Best of all, the Plaza Inn offers some of the best cakes and desserts in the park. Once you’ve finished their famous fried chicken, you’ll be clamoring for one of their decadent cake slices or cupcakes.

8. Blue And Green Milk

The blue and green milk drinks are perfect for kids and adults alike. Made from a blend of coconut and rice milk, they’re also suitable for anyone who avoids dairy or lactose!

You can find this refreshing treat at the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge area of Disneyland.

Thanks to the dairy-free base of the drink, it’s very light and refreshing while offering just enough of the creamy richness of traditional kinds of milk. And while both drinks offer slightly different flavors, they’re both punctuated with tropical and citrus flavors that make them perfect for drinking on a hot day.

The blue milk is flavored with fruits like pineapple, dragon fruit, lime, and watermelon, giving it a fruity and tropical flavor. Meanwhile, the green milk offers a citrusy and floral flavor that includes orange blossom, mandarin orange, passion fruit, and grapefruit.

Want to make your own at home? Check out our blue milk recipe!

Disneyland also offers an alcoholic version of both milks, with Bacardi rum in the blue milk and Corazon Blanco Tequila in the green milk.

These fun drinks are served in square cups to differentiate them from the kid-friendly milks in circle cups.

9. Angry Dogs And Slightly Annoyed Dogs

If you’re looking for a spicy take on a classic snack, look no further than the Angry Dogs stand at the Pixar Pier in Disney California Adventure Park.

At this thematic food kiosk, you have the option of ordering a piping-hot angry dog or a mild slightly annoyed dog.

With each hot dog, you also get a side of chips – Flamin’ Hot Fries for the angry dog and potato chips for the slightly annoyed dog.

Pixar Pier also offers fun condiments to suit your mood: ketchup if you’re keeping it together and mustard, if you’re a bit displeased, as well as agitated brown mustard and raging buffalo hot sauce for anyone particularly agitated.

They also offer sweet relish, mayo, and sriracha!

The angry dog delivers a real spicy kick that will make it a delight to try for any fans of spicy food. People who prefer a classic hot dog will love pairing the slightly annoyed dog with some ketchup to keep it together.

This Pixar Pier hot dog stand has perfect options for everyone, whether you prefer to have an American classic or something new.

10. Loco Moco Breakfast Burrito

There’s no better way to start a fun-filled day at Disneyland than with the Loco Moco Breakfast Burrito at the Tangaroa Terrace.

This burrito is filled with steamed rice, a chopped beef patty, crunchy onions, and fried egg, with lots of savory gravy lathered inside. It’s also served with a delicious salsa Roja.

This burrito is delicious and moist with a perfect ratio of rice, meat, gravy, and egg. Paired with the salsa Roja, it’s crispy and incredible.

The Loco Moco Breakfast Burrito is also served in a heaping portion, so it’s great for a filling meal or sharing with a friend or partner.

Best of all, the burrito is perfect for wrapping up and taking on the go.

11. Cookie Butter Monkey Bread

If you’re stopping by the River Belle Terrace in Disney park, trying their seasonal monkey bread is a delightful way to treat yourself.

After having the opportunity to try the cookie butter monkey bread, I cannot believe how delicious this little dessert is — and how few Disneyland visitors know about it!

The cookie butter monkey bread pairs their delicious classic monkey bread with vanilla ice cream, a cookie butter shell, and cookie butter creme anglaise. When it arrived at the table, it was hot and practically oozing with flavor.

The velvety and soft bread is coated in delicious cinnamon sugar, and the delicious creaminess of the vanilla ice cream makes an incredible pairing.

And just as it couldn’t get any better, the delicious cookie butter creme Anglaise is drizzled over the ice cream and adds a buttery finish.

The cookie butter monkey bread is almost reminiscent of the flavor of a cinnamon roll in all the best ways, and other specialty offerings are sure to be just as good.

Ordering the monkey bread is a great way to satiate your sweet tooth!
