I can tell you from personal experience, Florida weather is no joke. After living there for several years, I’ve learned that one moment it can be sunny and blistering hot, and then the next minute, seemingly out of nowhere, you’re caught in what feels like a monsoon.
Almost like clockwork, there will be afternoon showers in the Sunshine State. And I’m not talking about a small sprinkle of rain. I am telling you, you will get soaked!
While the rain offers a small break from the hot, smoldering sun, you also don’t want to spend the rest of the day walking around the park with mushy socks and wet clothes (cue the chaffing!😫).
Not only that, but rain is also common during winter at Disney World, so you’ll want to be prepared any time of year.

One of our top tips for still having fun at Disney World in the rain is to have a poncho!
You can buy ponchos on Disney property, but they aren’t the least expensive option out there.
I personally think it’s best to be prepared beforehand so when the storms hit, you won’t be scrambling in the rain, trying to find the nearest shop with ponchos for sale.

Disney World Rain Gear: Ponchos vs. Rain Jackets vs. Umbrellas
While I believe ponchos offer the most versatility, ease and cover from rain while at the parks, there are also other options to help keep you dry.
Rain Jackets at Disney World
You may already have a rain jacket in your closet, which repels water as well. However, many rain jackets don’t often cover as much of your body as a poncho does, and they don’t always offer as much air flow as a poncho.
Air flow is key when trying to block the rain while also surviving the Florida heat.
Plus, raincoats can be bulkier or take up more room in your bag, which means they may not be practical to bring along.
Umbrellas at Disney World
Another obvious option for staying dry is an umbrella!
While there are some great umbrella options these days, there are also a couple of downsides to using an umbrella in the park.
First, if you’re traveling as a family, packing an umbrella for everyone in your party is going to take up some serious space in your backpack (as well as weigh it down).
Second, umbrellas will be a little more of a hassle when getting on and off rides, whereas there’s a little more ease with a poncho.
If you’re traveling solo, carrying an umbrella for yourself isn’t such a big deal, and could be a viable option if you prefer that to a poncho.

There are a few things to take into consideration when you’re choosing ponchos for Disney World.
Easy to Pack
First of all, you want something that’s easy to tote around with you.
You’ll want a poncho that folds up small so it will fit in your backpack or fanny pack. Stay away from bulky options.
Lightweight
It’s important to pick a poncho that’s breathable, especially if you think you’re going to be wearing it for a good bit of the day.
If you want something “just in case” it rains, the inexpensive plastic options will work fine.
But since it’s still hot in Florida, even in the rain, you’ll want to have a lightweight option that won’t make you feel sticky.

With all of that in mind, I personally can’t recommend a poncho enough.
Whether you want the ease and price point of a disposable one or you decide on a more permanent and reusable option, they’re a lifesaver in Florida downpours!
As a mom, my personal favorite is the rain poncho with a pocket.
Maybe you don’t care about pockets, or that one isn’t your style. In that case I would definitely choose the ANYOO poncho for its versatility and longevity.
