If you’ve never been to Disney World, there’s one thing I need to tell you. And that is: It’s huge.

In fact, it’s not a stretch to say that you can easily walk several miles during your day at Disney.

That’s why it’s super important to keep your feet happy at Disney World!

If there’s anything that can derail the fun in your day, it’s an uncomfortable pair of shoes (ask me how I know 😖).

Whether you’re standing in line to meet your favorite Disney Princess or to ride Space Mountain, you’re going to need comfortable shoes.

I know you don’t want to be in pain, nor do you want to leave the park early because your feet just can’t take it anymore.

Not only have I spent many, many days at Disney, but I also spent 7 years working in a shoe store, so I know a thing or two about what works and what doesn’t.

The BEST SHOES TO WEAR TO DISNEY WORLD OR DISNEYLAND

I’m going to break down the best shoes for Disney World and Disneyland, so you’ll know exactly what you need!

Having comfortable, well-fitting shoes is one of the best things you can do to prevent blisters at Disney World.

Whether you need sandals, walking shoes, sneakers, or something a little dressier, I’ve got you covered, because this is one of the most important things on your Disney packing list.

Sandals to Wear at Disney Parks

Vionic Sandals

Sandals are a popular option at the Disney parks, due to warm weather. Vionic is known for making shoes and sandals with a built-in orthotic footbed, designed to hug your arches and support your feet, making them just about as comfortable as you can get.

While any Vionic sandal will offer this support, I particularly like the Amber model because it has four adjustable straps.

While the Vionic Tide is a popular toe-post sandal, I personally prefer a sandal that doesn’t involve a strap between my toes. The straps on the Amber allow you to easily adjust for width, getting the best possible fit.

I have the Amber sandals myself and can vouch that they are seriously soo comfortable.

Although they come in a handful of colors, I like the neutral coloring of the gold cork version, because it can be dressy enough to wear with a sundress, but casual enough to wear with shorts and a t-shirt.

A similar model would be the Vionic Farra, which has just three straps to adjust.

Teva Sandals

Another super comfortable sandal option, Teva sport sandals also boast waterproof materials, which makes them ideal for pop-up showers in Florida (because there’s a good chance you’ll be spending time at Disney World in the rain at some point during your trip!) or for a ride on Splash Mountain.

I don’t love the look of a lot of sport sandals, because they can look and feel kind of bulky.

However, after a lot of research, I purchased and now love the Teva Sirra sandal, because the straps are thinner and sleeker, but can easily adjust to suit differing widths of feet.

The fabric of the straps dries quickly and the sole has decent traction. The footbed is also super comfortable, making it ideal for walking long distances.

Plus, they come in several colors, so you can pick the ones you like best!

Sorel Ella Sandals

Sorel sandals are comfortable and can be a bit “trendier” than some of the other options. They offer a cute gladiator-style sandal that is super comfortable.

I have the criss-cross model, but they also make a similar model without a toe piece.

The footbed does not offer arch support, but it is padded and flexible, so I’ve been able to wear them all day.

The neutral colors are great for matching a variety of outfits, too.

Should You Wear Flip Flops to Disney World?

While you certainly can wear flip flops to Disney World (and I have personally done it many times over the years), I think you will want to be intentional with which type of flip flops you choose.

You won’t want to wear a thin, flimsy pair of flip flops, that’s for sure. However, there are definitely some more comfortable flip flop options you could wear.

If you’re on a ride where your feet will be dangling, such as Soarin’ at Epcot, you will want to take off your flip-flops so they don’t fall off your feet.

You will also want to make sure that they are snug enough that you don’t have to use your toes to hold them onto your feet with each step, but not so tight that they rub.

Sanuk Flip Flops

Sanuk Yoga Sling flip flops are quite popular due to the super comfy fabric straps that hold them on your feet.

This could be a solid option to help prevent blisters, but if you need a more supportive footbed, these may not be the best choice for you.

My mom, who is in her 60s, wore these sandals around Disney World during our last trip, and they worked just fine for her.

Vionic Toepost Sandals

As I mentioned above, Vionic sandals are a super comfortable option, and they do have a few styles featuring a toepost, making them more like a souped-up flip-flop.

Not only are these a bit dressier than a standard flip-flop, but they will be way more comfortable and supportive, thanks to the orthotic footbed.

They are a favorite among people with plantar fascitis, and they come in many colors. Seriously though, the footbed on these sandals is amazing!

Skechers Go-Walk Flip Flops

This pair is another favorite of my mom, thanks to the sporty look and comfy cushioned footbed. Plus, they’re fairly lightweight and offer good bounce when walking.

The piece that goes between your toes is made of a soft fabric, helping to reduce the likelihood of irritation. As with most Skechers footwear, these sandals come in several different color options, so there’s something for everyone!

Olukai Ho’Opio Flip Flops

Olukai sandals are known for their comfort, and these Ho’Opio flip flops come with an anatomical footbed and leather straps, making them comfortable but not bulky.

The piece that goes between your toes is fabric, so it’s softer against your skin. Plus, they come in several different colors!

Favorite Sneakers and Walking Shoes for Disney World and Disneyland

Sneakers are a popular choice for wearing in the Disney parks, because they can provide a lot of comfort and support.

However, since hot weather is common, I’d recommend wearing breathable, non-cotton socks like these that will keep your feet from getting too hot and sweaty during the day. I also prefer heel-tab socks to make sure the backs of your shoes don’t rub your heels.

It’s also worth noting that your sneakers may get wet–particularly if you get caught in a pop-up rain shower or if you take the plunge on Splash Mountain or Kali River Rapids.

If you have more than one pair of comfy sneakers, pack both–this will give the wet pair more time to dry if you have a backup pair to wear the next day.

These are some comfy sneaker options to wear throughout the parks.

Skecher’s Go Walk Sneaker

These Go Walk shoes are a great go-to pair of sneakers–in fact, my mom has three pairs of them because they’re so comfortable!

Easy to slip on, they’re made of a soft, breathable fabric and are the perfect combo of comfy and cute. They also come in different colors.

Asics Gel-Venture 5 Running Shoe

These sneakers have a more rugged sole for better traction, plus a removable foam sockliner that is perfect for inserting your own orthotics if necessary. The gel cushioning is designed to provide all-day comfort.

They have a slightly wider toe box than some of the Gel-Venture models, so you’ll have a bit more room as your feet expand throughout the day.

Plus, they come in several different colors, so you can choose your favorite combo!

Brooks Adrenaline Running Shoe

These sneakers are one of my favorites, and I’ve owned a couple of pairs now.

They have great support and stability, but still have some cushion that gives you a bit of bounce. The Adrenaline model isn’t super bulky, either, so they still qualify as cute, in my opinion!

Plus, they come in several different colors, so you can choose your favorite combo!

5 Things to Look for in the Best shoes for Disney

When you’re shopping for and packing your shoes, there are a few considerations that should come into play here when you’re choosing the best shoes to wear to Disney World.

Comfort matters most

If you’re choosing between a cute pair of shoes and a comfortable pair of shoes, do yourself a favor and just choose the comfortable ones.

So what if they aren’t in peak fashion? Neither is hobbling through the park because of your blisters!

Skip the cute wedges and pumps. Comfortable shoes are not a nice-to-have item; they are a must-have item for your theme park days.

Breathable

When possible, choose shoes that are fairly breathable. Florida is hot, and your feet will quickly become hot and sweaty if you choose poorly here.

Sandals can be a great option for allowing feet to breathe, as well as sneakers and walking shoes made with breathable material.

Break them in first

I know, I know…when you buy a pair of shoes specifically for your upcoming trip, you want to keep them looking nice and fresh.

However, you’ll thank me later when I say you need to break those puppies in first.

Wear them around your house throughout the day to get them ready for their big debut.

Lightweight and versatile

You’re going to be packing these shoes and also lugging them around on your feet, so you don’t want anything heavy or cumbersome.

I also strive to find shoes that tick all of the other boxes PLUS are versatile–meaning I can wear them with casual shorts throughout the park or also with a sundress in the evening.

The more versatile a pair of shoes is, the less number of pairs you have to pack.

The Best Shoes for Theme Parks

The bottom line is, if you want the best shoes to wear to Disney World, then you absolutely want a pair of shoes that will be comfortable enough to last you all day as you walk miles throughout the parks!

You want them to be breathable, lightweight, and versatile.

Whether you’re choosing sandals or sneakers, order a couple of options from this list and try them on ahead of time, then send back any pair that doesn’t work. Then be sure to break them in before you leave!

Your feet will thank you later! 🙂
