Disney films have many lovable pets, but the horses that accompany our heroes (and sometimes dastardly Disney villains) are famous in their own right.

If you’re an equine aficionado, you’ll love these Disney movies with horses.

Horses in Disney Movies

Some of the most beloved horses in Disney history come from classic animated movies. Disney fans are sure to remember many of these from the feature film in which they star.

Here are just a few of the Disney horses that have stolen our hearts over the years and where you can find them:

1. Achilles (The Hunchback of Notre Dame)

Phoebus’ horse and companion, Achilles is a loyal but snarky steed. He was named after the movie’s infamous line, “Achilles, heel!” when he’s ordered to stop.

2. Angus (Brave)

This shaggy Scottish horse is Merida’s best friend and constant companion. He’s large, loyal, and always ready for an adventure. You can find Angus in Brave, available on Blu-ray, DVD, and digital HD.

3. Buck (Home on the Range)

This leading character horse is a bit full of himself and loves to be where the action is. His martial arts skills come in handy more than once throughout the movie.

4. Bullseye (Toy Story)

Probably one of the most loved horses in Disney history, Bullseye is Woody’s trusty steed who will do anything to help his cowboy pal. You can find him in both Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3.

5. Captain (101 Dalmatians)

This horse is a member of the London constabulary and helped Pongo and Perdita round up the Dalmatian puppies who had been kidnapped by Cruella De Vil.

6. Cyril (The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad)

Cyril is the horse of choice for Mr. Toad, the star of The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad. This 1949 film is a part of Disney’s Platinum Edition series and is available on Blu-ray and DVD.

7. Destiny (Enchanted)

In this modern Disney classic, Giselle’s animal friends come to life in the real world, including her horse Destiny. This beautiful palomino helps Giselle navigate the mean streets of New York City and find her way back to Prince Edward.

8. Frou-Frou (The Aristocats)

This French poodle belongs to Madeline, the matriarch of the Aristocats. Frou Frou is a bit of a diva, but she’s also fiercely loyal to her family.

9. Khan (Mulan)

Mulan’s courageous stallion takes her on many adventures as she tries to save her father and defeat the Huns.

10. Kjekk (Frozen)

Kjekk, which means handsome in Norwegian, is Anna’s royal horse who she grew up riding. Her riding companion helps her set out to find the Snow Queen when she flees Arendale.

11. Major (Cinderella)

This beautiful horse is Cinderella’s loyal friend and confidante. He helps her escape from her wicked stepmother and stepsisters on many occasions, including the fateful night when she meets Prince Charming at the royal ball.

12. Maximus (Tangled)

A brave palomino, Maximus is Flynn Rider’s arch-nemesis and the captain of the royal guards. He’s fiercely loyal to his kingdom and will stop at nothing to find the fugitive Flynn.

13. Patrick (Home on the Range)

Gullible and good-natured, Patrick is the dairy cow’s best friend. He helps her on her quest to capture the notorious outlaw, Alameda Slim.

14. Pegasus (Hercules)

Pegasus is a flying horse who appears in Disney’s Hercules. He helps Hercules on his quest to become a hero and defeat Hades. Pegasus is based on the mythical creature of the same name.

15. Philippe (Beauty & the Beast)

Belle’s horse, Philippe, is a brave steed who is always there to help her, even when she’s in danger from the Beast. Philippe is based on the horse of the same name from the fairy tale “Beauty and the Beast”.

16. Samson (Sleeping Beauty)

Samson is a powerful war horse who belongs to Prince Phillip. He helps Phillip defeat Maleficent and wake up Princess Aurora in Disney’s classic film, Sleeping Beauty.

17. Sitron (Frozen)

Sitron is a Norwegian Fjord horse who belongs to Hans. He’s a quirky companion to Hans and helps him on his quest to win Anna’s heart.

18. Snowball (The Hunchback of Notre Dame)

This fierce black horse belongs to Claude Frollo, the antagonist of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Snowball is a powerful horse who is often used to carry out Frollo’s evil deeds.

Other Disney Horse Characters

These characters might not make the main list, but they’re definitely worth an honorable mention:

Jaq & Gus: Cinderella’s mice friends are turned into horses by her Fairy Godmother in order to help her escape from her wicked stepmother and stepsisters.

Carousel Horses: In Mary Poppins the carousel horses come to life while Bert, Mary and the children are enjoying a game of imagination.

Abu: In Aladdin, the Genie turns Abu into a horse for just a few seconds but he makes a fun horse if he ever decides he’s tired of being a monkey.

Horses at Disney World

Walt Disney World Resort has its own stables for their horses, located at the Tri-Circle-D Ranch at Fort Wilderness.

You can visit the barns and even take a trail ride on a quarter horse!

The Disney theme parks have a team of draft horses that pull trolleys down Main Street USA at the Magic Kingdom, plus white horses used in parades and wedding processions, horses for trail rides, etc.

Disneyland Resort in Anaheim also has horses for use within the theme park.
