Planning a Walt Disney World vacation can be both exciting and stressful all at the same time.
Choosing dates that work for the whole family, deciding where to stay, and planning which park to go to each day is a lot.
By the time you’re ready to think about packing, that vacation cannot come soon enough!
April is a popular time for many guests to visit Walt Disney World, because in many parts of the country, spring break is underway, making it ideal for families with school-age children.
Others love to visit during the spring so they can enjoy the special events of the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival (we love the violet lemonade made famous at the festival!).
Still others love attending the Earth Day Celebration at Animal Kingdom during this month.
Or maybe you’re just trying to squeeze in a trip before the sweltering heat of the summer months is underway.
Whatever the reason, if you’re planning a trip to Disney World in April, you’re in good company!
I have gathered everything you need to know about what to pack for your April Disney World trip, what the weather is like, and some ideas of what to wear to Disney World in April.
April Weather in Orlando
No matter what month of the year you visit Walt Disney World, you may find yourself presented with some finicky weather.
But April is particularly tricky!
Some years, it’s still somewhat cold in April (especially early in the morning and after the sun sets), and other years, it’s perfectly glorious weather.
The one thing that makes a trip to Orlando stand out from other vacations elsewhere is the humidity.
No matter what time of year it is, you’ll feel like it’s muggy when you get off that plane and into the parks.
In general, April is a pretty warm month during the days, with temps averaging in the 80s.
Keep in mind that there are also days where the high average temperatures only get into the 70s, but most people still consider that fairly warm weather.
Rainy days are likely to be part of your trip no matter when you go, so I always recommend following our tips for enjoying Disney in the rain.
The evenings and early-morning park openings can be a little chilly (think upper 50s and lower 60s), so layers are a smart choice.
The good news is that April is NOT part of Atlantic hurricane season, so you’re in the clear there!
What to Wear to Disney World in April
Having lived in and visited Central Florida for several years now, I have learned a thing or two about what to wear to the parks in April.
Here are some items you’ll want to have for your trip to the most magical place on Earth during the spring!

Comfortable Walking Shoes
One of the most important items you’ll want to pack for Disney World is going to be shoes you don’t mind wearing all day.
Wearing the wrong shoes can make or break your vacation, so it’s important to pick the right ones.
Between doing a lot of walking around the parks and standing in long lines, you’ll want to be sure your footwear is working for you.
Check out our list of the best shoes for Disney World, as well as our suggestions for keeping your feet happy at Disney World.
If you’re planning on enjoying water rides or visiting during the rainy season, you may want to wear a pair of sandals instead of sneakers.
These sandals are my favorite because they can get wet and they’re super comfortable! They’re also very reasonably priced and come in several colors.
A light Jacket, Sweatshirt, or Sweater
Because the temperature tends to fluctuate during the day, dressing in layers is key.
You don’t want to be shivering when you’re at rope drop in the morning or at the evening fireworks, nor do you want to be sweating it out while trekking across World Showcase in the heat of the afternoon.
The most important thing is to have something light and easy to roll into your backpack, tie around your waist, or store in your locker.
You can always buy a sweatshirt or jacket from a gift shop, but that obviously adds an extra cost to your day.
Shorts, Pants, or Leggings
Chances are pretty good that it will be warm enough to wear shorts in April, so it’s definitely worth packing some.
But you may also want to pack some comfortable pants or leggings, too (check out our favorite Disney leggings–they’re SO cute!).
I prefer leggings to jeans this time of year, because they don’t get as hot during the day (and who doesn’t love stretchy pants?!).
Comfortable Tops
Since you’re layering, you may want to stick with a comfortable short-sleeve or sleeveless shirt to wear under your jacket in case of cooler temperatures.
I prefer looser, more flowy shirts for keeping cool when it’s warm, as it helps me feel less sticky in the humidity.
Athletic tank top shirts are another good choice, since they wick sweat away from your skin.
You could even do matching family shirts for Disney! It’s a fun way to showcase your favorite character during your trip!
Sunglasses
Another thing I always wear on my Disney trips is a really good pair of sunglasses. They’re great for keeping the sun out of your eyes no matter what time of year it is.
After all, Florida lives up to its name as the Sunshine State!
Rain Poncho
April is one of those months that includes just about every type of weather possible: rain showers, sunny days, and chilly evenings.
If you pack for the whole range of weather, you can’t go wrong.
A rain poncho is always a smart choice to have on hand even if, fingers crossed, you don’t need them.
Whether you want inexpensive disposable ponchos or something that’s built to last, we have a list of our favorite ponchos for Disney World to help you pick the best one for your needs!
The Perfect Bag for Disney
The perfect park bag for stashing all your stuff during the day is an important part of your attire in the parks!
If you’re traveling with toddlers, a larger bag can be used and stowed in the bottom of your stroller, or you may prefer to bring one of our favorite backpacks for Disney.
When packing light, you may prefer one of these fanny packs for Disney World.
Swimsuit
The Disney resort hotels keep their pools open year-round (and heated), so you can enjoy the water at any time.
Not only that, but at least one of the Disney water parks is open at all times during the year.
So if you’re staying at one of the Disney resorts and you’re planning on doing some swimming, bring your bathing suit!
What to Pack for Disney World in April
In addition to clothes, here are a few more things you won’t want to forget when you’re packing for your trip!
Be sure to add them to your Disney World packing list!
Sunscreen
Having sunscreen on hand is a must for April. The Florida sun can cause you to burn quickly if you’re not careful.
And while you can buy sunscreen in the parks, it is a good bit pricier than what you’d pay elsewhere.
You may already have some favorite sunscreens for your family. If not, these three are my favorite.
The Hint pineapple sunscreen smells heavenly and doesn’t choke you with fumes when you use it.
This sunscreen stick is by far the easiest way to protect my kids’ faces, and the Anthelios sunscreen is the only kind my own sensitive skin can tolerate on my face.
Water Bottles
Bringing a refillable water bottle is a great way to stay cool at Disney World.
You can get free cups of ice water from any quick service restaurant in the park, then pour the water into your bottle for easy transport.
First Aid Essentials
Put together a small first aid kit that includes the essentials: bandages, ointment, blister prevention and relief items, and a few pain relievers.
Having access to these items can make a huge difference when you or someone in your group is feeling sick, sunburned, tired, or comes down with a case of Disney Rash!
Snacks
Every mom knows the importance of packing snacks! You just never know when you might need some extra nibbles to tide everyone over until dinner time.
A few granola bars and/or packs of fruit snacks will always be welcome in my book. Pack some favorites and save yourself some money as well (maybe buy an extra souvenir with your savings!).
Tissues, Wipes, and Sanitizer
Whether it’s for a runny nose, sticky hands after a snack, or to get rid of germs, these items are important to have at the ready.
Phone Charger
If you know your phone’s battery doesn’t usually last all day, a portable phone charger is a great idea for anyone who isn’t fond of hunting down an outlet to juice up your phone.
Having a portable way to recharge your devices means you can keep moving, taking pictures, and enjoying activities (and not be stuck sitting on the floor by an outlet).
Documents
Not to be a downer here, but make sure you have all of your important documents with you on your trip, such as: your medical insurance card, a credit card, and identification (like your driver’s license).
It’s a good idea to take a photo of these items and store them on your phone as well, just in case you lose anything.
Disney Packing List for April
To recap, here’s a list of the items you’ll want to consider packing if you’re visiting Disney World in April.
- Casual clothing. Comfortable, breathable fabrics like cotton and mesh will help keep you cool on the warmer days. April may seem like a great time to bust out the shorts and t-shirts in Florida (and it can be!), but make sure you have some extra layers on hand just in case the weather changes.
- A good pair of comfortable shoes. April is a great time to wear sneakers (with socks of course). If you don’t want to go the sneaker route, make sure your shoes or sandals are comfortable.
- Sunglasses. These will help protect your eyes from the sun and can even be helpful if it starts to rain during your trip.
- A light jacket and poncho. It’s not unusual for temps to drop a few degrees as soon as the sun sets, and rain is fairly common this time of year.
- First Aid kit. Be prepared for any minor medical issues you or your family members may have.
- Chargers. Portable chargers can save the day and ensure that no one is left out of the fun because of a dead phone battery.
- Snacks. Always a good idea to have some snacks on hand just in case everyone gets hungry (or hangry!) before meal time, or if you need something to tide you over during a break in the action or while waiting in line.
- A good Disney Parks bag. This doesn’t have to be anything too fancy but make sure it’s big enough to fit all your items.
- Tissues/wipes/sanitizer. A small pack of tissues or wipes can come in handy even if you’re not using them for icky noses. These are great to have on hand during character meet and greets or anytime someone’s feeling overheated.
- A refillable water bottle. Water fountains can be found throughout all four parks. It’s nice to have your own bottle so you don’t need to keep buying water every time you get thirsty.
I hope this helped give you some ideas on what to pack for your April Disney World trip!
